How the humble samosa, vada pav and chai have caught the eye of millenials

Whether we’d like to admit it or not, the millennial generation of today is placing a very high emphasis on being unique, growing culturally, and exploring new cultures and cuisines. Sometimes even suddenly embracing an aspect of their own, like never before.

Food and travel are the two main points of exploration for them these days, and the best part is, this generation has become more involved and adventurous than the ones before. Exploring different cultures and cuisines and embracing each one of their unique taste, is wholesome toothsome adventure in itself.

I still remember the time when I was a teenager, when the latest in-thing was to eat pastries and pizzas, in this elite bakery downtown. Saving up a week’s allowance to blow it up on a piece of yummy Black Forest pastry that would just melt in the mouth, would be so worth it.

But when it comes to today, millenials have started embracing our culture like never before. From samosas to vada pav and chai, the snacks our parents grew up on are back in the playing field, and how!

Did you know though, that very own samosa we think of as Indian, was never even ours? Yes, these delightful tightly packed triangles full of goodness actually came to India from Central Asia several centuries ago. Originally called “samsa” after the great pyramids in Central Asia, the humble.samosa has truly come a long way.

Speaking of samosas, how can we forget the other Indian snack that everyone swears by? The lip-smacking vada pav. What we know today as Vada pav actually came into existence when a snack seller outside the Dadar railway station decided to experiment, and came up with a combination of batata vada and split pav. Long story short, it became a phenomenon overnight!

Be it as an accompaniment for an evening chat with friends, or a sophisticated business meeting, when you combine it with some samosas, chai and vada pav, it just takes the experience to another level. What could be better than biting into these hot, chutney-coated treats on a rainy evening?
