Meet Chef Suresh, Executive Chef of The Crown, at The Residency Towers Chennai. As a proud Chennaite, he has been winning hearts and leaving his mark at prestigious kitchens across the world for 17 glorious years. His journey to culinary stardom, however, is far from typical.

Cooking was not Chef Suresh’s first love. With his sights set skyward, he was keen on becoming an aeronautical engineer. In fact, when asked, he doesn’t remember ever lingering in his mother’s kitchen or even attempting to bring a recipe to life. All this changed when he enrolled in catering college, as the exorbitant course fees of engineering college forced him to seek out a different path. His principal’s encouragement sparked his interest in the culinary field, and this evolved into a passion as he worked with the world’s greatest chefs over the years. In a few short years, he went from prodigy to masterchef, as he discovered the true alchemy of cooking.

Chef Suresh donned his chef whites for the first time at ITC Park Sheraton, Chennai before making his way to Delhi’s famed Oberoi hotel. From there, he jet-setted to work in Dubai, Scotland, and even on a cruise ship!
He was an apprentice under renowned Chef Imitiaz Qureshi, the first chef to be awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to the culinary arts. An Italian masterchef also tutored him in the art of authentic Italian cuisine. The former moulded him into a master of the fine art of traditional kebabs and North Indian delicacies, while the latter transformed him into a technical genius. His varied experiences have also made him a master of Mediterranean, Continental, and Indian cuisine.
During his downtime, he loves honing his skills. He has a voracious appetite for culinary books and learning about the newest innovations in the world of gastronomy. His food idols are Heston Blumenthal, Head Chef of The Fat Duck and pioneer of the multi-sensory dining experience. Chef Sricharan Venkatesh, Head Chef of Nadodi in Malaysia is another idol of his.

At The Crown, Chef Suresh puts his stamp on several cuisines. But his specialty is the mouth-watering grills he prepares. He joined our team in January 2021 with a determination to make Chennai a gastronomic paradise. He revamped the menu in time for a grand relaunch in only one week, and has continually been adding more innovative and flavour-packed dishes to the menu, much to the delight of our guests!
