Pondicherry is well-known as India’s French connection, and there’s no better place for couples to enjoy. In the movie, the character Ananya, played by Aaliya Bhatt, is famously from Chennai, but several scenes featuring her house were filmed in Pondicherry.

Life of Pi (2012)


Perhaps the most famous film on this list is the Oscar-winning, ‘Life of Pi’. Saat Khoon Maaf (2011)


Based on ‘Susanna's Seven Husbands’ by Ruskin Bond, this dark comedy tells the story of a woman who causes death after death in her twisted quest for love. Priyanka Chopra plays femme fatale Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes in this adaptation. This deeply terrifying heroine ultimately finds redemption and true love for God in Pondicherry.

Kannathil Muthamittal (2002)


We’ve covered Hollywood and Bollywood, but no one loves Pondicherry more than Kollywood! This Mani Ratnam movie follows the story of a child of Sri Lankan Tamil parentage. She is adopted by Indian parents and desires to meet her biological parents in the midst of the Sri Lankan Civil War. While the subject matter is heavy, the story tugs at your heartstrings. Though the story was not set in Pondicherry, the scenes depicting Colombo were filmed here.
